A tour around Santorini Island gives visitors the opportunity to get to know the island and its history. The famous prehistoric site of Akrotiri is an entire settlement that had been preserved through the ages underneath lava and volcanic ash, allowing us to witness this marvellous complex of houses, staircases, storage rooms, and streets dating back to the 5 th millennium BC. Ancient Thira, located on a hill between the villages of Perissa and Kamari, was a sophisticated city during antiquity. Today, visitors can see the city ruins, including sanctuaries, a graveyard, an agora, a gymnasium, a theatre, and a stoa, and admire the lovely panoramic view. In Fira, there are two wonderful cathedrals, a 17 th century manor and the superb Museum of Prehistoric Thira and the Archaeological Museum. The Maritime Museum in Oia is also worth a visit. While in Santorini, a day cruise in the Caldera and to the volcanic isles of Thirassia, Palea Kammeni and Nea Kammeni, is a must.

The beaches in Santorini are quite unusual, as many of them have volcanic sands of various colors. A great number of our hotels in Santorini are close to beaches, especially those on the eastern side of the island. The black and grey sandy beaches in Kamari, M onolithos, Perissa, and Perivolos are very popular and are lined with cafés and restaurants where you can cool down after sunbathing and swimming. The Red and White beaches near Akrotiri are also much-frequented due to their uniqueness and dramatic settings with colourful cliffs in the background. The beaches of Armeni and Ammoudi are situated beneath the town of Oia and are reached by steps, so access on foot is only recommended for people who are fit. On the northern coast of the island are the lovely beaches of Baxedes, Paradissos, Vourvoulou, and Koloumbos, which are ideal for those who want quieter, more secluded beaches.
